Fire extinguishers are not all the same and different fire extinguishers must be used for different fire types. Different fire types are referred to as fire classes:

CLASS A – Paper, textiles, wood, most plastics & rubber
CLASS B – Flammable liquids
CLASS C – Combustible gases
CLASS D – Flammable metals
CLASS E – Electrically energised equipment
CLASS F – Cooking oils & fats

DCP (Dry Chemical Powder) fire extinguishers are red and Identified by a white band. They come in 2 types ABE & BE.

ABE fire extinguishers are the most common type of DCP extinguisher and are suitable to extinguish Class A, B, C, E.

BE fire extinguishers are suitable to extinguish Class B, C, E, F.
CO2 (carbon dioxide) fire extinguishers are red and identified by a black band. CO2 fire extinguishers are suitable for Class B & E fires.Foam extinguishers are also red and identified by a blue band. Foam fire extinguishers are suitable for Class A & B fires and can be supplied filled with either a traditional C6 foam or an environmentally friendly fluorine-free foam.

Water extinguishers are all red and do not have a band around them for identification. Water filled fire extinguishers are recommended for Class A fires only.

Wet chemical extinguishers are red and identified by an oatmeal coloured band. Wet chemical fire extinguishers are suitable for Class A & F fires.

All fire extinguishers sold in Australia must be certified to Australian Standard AS1841 and must have a test rating. We do not believe in manufacturing fire extinguishers to meet a low price point – instead, we are focused on providing a fire extinguisher range that can be relied upon when they are needed most. As such, our extinguisher range includes extinguishers with industry class leading test ratings.
